I have a homemade dop pot (heat plate with a pan) that is a pain to set up and use and takes too much space. I have had a lot of failed dops as of late and I suspect either too hot or not hot enough. I got this and my failure rate dropped to zero (so far). It takes about 4 ounces of wax (I re-use my wax and in 20 years I have only used about 4 ounces) It heats very slowly (20 to 30 minutes to heat) but it makes the wax at the perfect temp to hold tight. I use the rim to pre heat the stones and this makes the perfect combo. The only real pain with this is that the slots to hold the sticks are too tall and my golf tees (my favorite dop stick) do not clear the top edge. It alos takes a while to cool off so do be careful
