Also, it doesn't just shoot rainbows. You need to have a valid setup... so no, you can't use the sun on a cloudy day (diffuse light) or in a room with more than 1 light source.
With a very bright flashlight it's very easy... just rotate the prism until you see the spectrum. The photo I included is a high CRI light source, so the spectrum was fairly smooth and complete.
Mine had a broken corner when it arrived. I'm not going to return it, it's almost not noticeable at all.
